The aim of this study is to understand the determinants of the performance of the higher education institution in Albania. In Albania operate public and private higher education institutions, 15 and 23, respectively. In this study it is used the factor analysis and the reliability analysis. According to the factor analysis and the reliability analysis there are 9 factors that drive the performance of the higher education institutions. Besides the autonomy and the functioning of the HEI agencies components, there is on significant performance differences between public and private higher education institutions in Albania.
